Radisson Blu Hotel Dakar joins Youth Career Initiative
DAKAR (xx February 2014) – The Radisson Blu Hotel Dakar, Senegal’s leading upper upscale hotel, joins Youth Career Initiative, a recognized life and work skills program. The hotel welcomes ten young adults to a six months traineeship. The newcomers are between 20 and 25 years old and are living in SOS Children’s Villages in Senegal.
“We look forward to working with the young adults. Giving back to the communities in which we operate and offering ground level employment to local people is an important part of our group-wide Responsible Business Programme”, said Jorgen Jorgensen, General Manager of the Radisson Blu Hotel Dakar. During their time at the hotel, the four young women and six young men will be trained in both hospitality job and life skills. They will receive more than 750 hours of training, and will gain experience in various departments of the hotel such as front office, food & drink, kitchen, etc.
Long-term unemployment of underprivileged youngsters is a challenge in many countries around the world and often leads to further consequences such as mental health issues. The international hospitality industry is one of the very few global industries to address the problem and to offer solutions – and Youth Career Initiative connects participating hotels and young adults. To date, some 2,400 students in 12 countries have already benefitted from Young Career Initiative.
Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, operating company of the Radisson Blu Hotel Dakar, has trained young adults in four countries during the past years – and became a new lead partner of Young Career Initiative in 2013. The strengthened partnership will allow for a faster and easier roll-out of Young Career Initiative training cycles to even more countries.
